The Unapologetic Mathematician

Mathematics for the interested outsider

Well someone has a sense of humor

Evidently AmerUs, the company I had life insurance with from when I was a wee lad so the payoff would offset the loss of a tax deduction in the event of my untimely demise, demutualized recently. Everyone in the mutual fund got paid off as it went down, and my cut would take a big chunk out of the Portugal trip.

Except I didn’t get the check. Business is (obviously) closed for the day, so I’ll have to call tomorrow and extract my vengeance.

So how did I find out? Simple. I just got the 1099-B so I can get taxed for the income i never received.

UPDATE: After a conversation with a particuarly dim call center staffer the check is being reproduced and remailed.
