I promised a commenter that I would try to find out about Yale’s schedule for admitting graduate students, since I’m complaining about the opacity of the hiring schedule. I’ve finally managed to wrestle some information out: the first offers are going out this week. Good luck to any who have applied for our Ph.D. program.

Tests are probably the worst thing about teaching. I’m actually the acting course head this time, so when the creek backs up I’m the one standing in the way without the paddle. This time there were a lot of quibbles about the exam that didn’t come up until it was too late to really change things, meaning an errata announcement at the beginning of the test and a lot of annoyance.
Also today someone pointed out that the second exam is scheduled for the first night of Passover, which is the sort of thing when the schedule is determined by two Iranians, a Briton, and a jerk (hint: I’m not the Briton). So that has to be changed, putting it either uncomfortably close to the end of the spring break or to the final. Either way someone is going to complain.
Grading dragged on, and I’ve just gotten home. Luckily I’m done, but other people haven’t finished yet, which means the students will be annoyed tomorrow. Oh yeah, I’ve gotta teach in the morning, so I’m going to bed now. Eating will wait until tomorrow.
