Unapologetic and Unavailable in Brazil
(I accidentally wrote this as a page, I just noticed. This new WordPress interface takes a bit of getting used to.)
Evidently my Brazilian readers (if I have any) will be readers no longer, now that a Brazilian court has ordered all ISPs to block WordPress. Officially it’s about one well-known and powerful lawyer there being insulted by something one WordPress blogger said. Me, I think it’s all part of a cunning plan on Isabel‘s part to dominate the Brazilian blathosphere.
Hat tip to Frank Pasquale at Concurring Opinions.

Well, I’m brazilian and I read your blog. But I don’t think it will affect me at all, I use the RSS feed with the Google Reader.
You do have at least two Brazilian readers (Victor and me) — and still reading!
This is not the first time something like this happens in Brazil. In the last year, YouTube was temporarily blocked because of some random popular “artist” from here who had a video of her exposed in which she had sex on the beach.
If they try to do it again, it is simply not going to work, at least not for long. It seems that Brazilian authorities have not learned how the Internet works.
A third, occasionally visitor from Brazil.
I hope (and some of my students too, probably) that the attempt to block WordPress here in Brazil would be reviewed.
[...] Também já outros divulgaram esta situação: por exemplo, o blogue em inglês “unapologetic”(veja link na barra lateral), nesta entrada/post. [...]
To add a silly remark: Did you go to a topless beach?
I haven’t even been there, Michael. Not that I would turn down an invitation from a well-known Brazilian university…
